At about 7 p.m. on a June evening, the light in Cape Charles turns orange over the Chesapeake Bay, and the breeze off the water knocks a few degrees off the day. That bay-side sunset is why couples look here, and the venues around town mix it with farm fields, creek edges and greenhouse gardens.
The questions below are the ones couples ask most, answered with real prices and capacities from venue listings.
Prices and hours can change, so please confirm with each business before booking.
Which Cape Charles venues actually have a garden setting?
Three places on the Eastern Shore near town fit a garden look:
- Cape Charles Tiny Livin (22102 South Bayside Road): a greenhouse for elopements and micro weddings, plus an outdoor tiny-house village with garden and woodland views.
- Cape Teal Farm (6370 Glenair Lane): listed as farm, garden and waterfront, with open-air ceremony space and lodging for 17.
- The Barn at Mimosa: 17 acres of fields and woodland on Eyre Hall Creek, with a barn for the reception.

Can you get the garden and the waterfront in one place?
Yes, at two of them. Cape Teal Farm is listed as both garden and waterfront. The Barn at Mimosa sits on the edge of Eyre Hall Creek, so you get water views with fields around you. Tiny Livin’s listing describes forest, garden and park views but doesn’t mention the bay, so plan bay photos at the town beach or harbor after the ceremony.
Kiptopeke State Park, south of town on the bay, is another option for an outdoor ceremony. Virginia State Parks handles reservations at 800-933-7275; ask about wedding use and fees, since the park doesn’t post wedding-specific pricing.
What does a garden wedding cost in Cape Charles?
Published starting prices from venue listings:
- Tiny Livin greenhouse elopement (up to 6 guests): $800–$900
- Tiny Livin greenhouse micro wedding (up to 20 guests): $1,200–$1,500
- Tiny Livin tiny-house village micro wedding (up to 80 guests, sleeps 22): $2,500–$3,750 per night
- The Barn at Mimosa (full wedding): from $5,900
- Cape Teal Farm: from $9,000 with one night of lodging for 17, or $12,250 for a Thursday-to-Sunday weekend. WeddingWire says couples there usually spend about $14,000.
The greenhouse packages don’t include vendors or overnight stays, so add catering, flowers and photography on top.
How many guests can each venue hold?
- Under 20: Tiny Livin’s greenhouse (6 or 20 guests)
- Up to 80: Tiny Livin’s tiny-house village (outdoors only)
- Up to 250: Cape Teal Farm
- Up to 300 seated: The Barn at Mimosa
For a 40-person dinner, the tiny-house village or Cape Teal Farm feels fuller than a big barn.

What’s the weather like for a garden wedding on the bay?
Cape Charles climate normals (1991–2020) from US Climate Data:
- April: highs around 65°F, lows near 48°F
- May: highs around 74°F, lows near 56°F, about 3.5 inches of rain
- June: highs around 83°F, lows near 66°F, and humid
- September: highs around 80°F, the wettest of these months at about 4.3 inches
- October: highs around 70°F, lows near 53°F
May and October are the sweet spots for a garden ceremony: mild, green or golden, and less sticky than midsummer. June through November is Atlantic hurricane season, so for a September date, read your venue’s weather and rescheduling terms closely.
What’s the backup plan if it rains?
None of these listings spell out a rain plan, so ask before you sign:
- Tiny Livin: the greenhouse covers the 6- and 20-guest packages, but the tiny-house village lists zero indoor capacity. Ask about a tent.
- Cape Teal Farm: listed as uncovered outdoor space, with tents available. Ask whether the tent is included or extra.
- The Barn at Mimosa: the barn itself is your backup for the ceremony.
Add the tent hold date and the “call time” for moving indoors to your contract. Bay storms can roll in fast in the afternoon.
Once the plan is set, share it with guests in one place. Our coastal-style wedding website template has RSVP, event details, a map and a photo gallery for a one-time purchase, so a rain-plan update reaches everyone in minutes.

Next step: email two of these venues about a May or October Saturday, and ask each one for its rain-plan details in writing. When you have a date, pick a wedding website template to send it out.
